As per my Writing 101 section, Decoding Disney's Happily Ever After, I will be posting academic related writing that at times will be directed to several Disney films and characters as well as other required posts pertaining to my writing course deliverables.
My motive for taking this class is partly because I grew up watching a few Disney films and as such, it was particularly fascinating to see a writing section offered to critique Disney films and get an in-depth understanding on what these films try to convey to their audience.
The course will start by covering earlier fairy tales before the Disney era and including the literary fairy tales of Charles Perrault among others. We will then progress to several particular Disney films and conclude by covering other branches of Disney's Empire.
Tangentially, my favorite Disney film is Aladdin and he is also my favorite character. The so-called "Diamond in the Rough" strikes me as an intelligent person raised in the tough streets of Agrabah with the wit to survive and the charm to warm the heart of a princess. Seems pretty darn impressive if you ask me.
Anyway, back to the more serious matters. In this class, I am interested in exploring the motive of the Directors in making the films in the manner they did and evaluate their thought process and its effects on the audience to which the movie and the underlying themes were intended. I am also interested in learning about the intricate roles the different characters played in the respective films and how the directors and writers were able to envision them and give them enough personality to strike deep into the souls of the masses who watch them. Join me as we explore these and much more with the ultimate goal being to figure out that the Happily Ever After ending is not a final destination but the mark of a better and more invigorating adventure waiting to unfold.
It is only the beginningπ€©.

Hi Robertson! Welcome! :)
ReplyDeleteYou mention that your favorite Disney movie is Aladdin -- have you seen the live-action version? If so, what do you think?
I'm also fascinated to know how Disney is thought of in Kenya. I know a little bit of how the Disney company is thought of internationally (beloved in Tokyo, not so much in Paris), but I think your global perspective can really help us broaden our understanding!
Thank you Dr. Andres. I liked the live-action film just that it wasn't as good as the animated version. Disney is kinda huge in Kenya just that not as many people follow through with Disney films past the age of 14. I am definitely excited to share my perspective and hear what others have to say about Disney films and other topics we shall be addressing.
DeleteHi Robertson!
ReplyDeleteGoing off of what Dr. Andres said, I too am very interested to know how Disney is thought of in Kenya, whether if it's as big there as it is here. I also wonder what type of marketing strategies they use there to best capture their film and inspire kids to watch their films. Great first intro piece and I'm excited to analyze Disney films with you :)
I am very excited to share with you and the rest of the class about everything surrounding Disney in Kenya.
DeleteHey Roberson,
ReplyDeleteThis is a great intro that tells us why you joined this writing course, as well as a bit about you. I don't really have too much else to add to the two comments above, except that the word writing in the second paragraph probably should not be capitalized.
Thanks. I have also corrected the unnecessary capitalization.
